MADE IN RWANDA
Our delicious coffee is from the town of Mubuga in the Karongi district in the western province of Rwanda, which is approximately a three hour drive from our capital city Kigali.
The coffee is processed at our own MUBUGA COFFE washing station. Ripe cherries are delivered to the mill and are graded, sorted, de-pulped using a Pinalhense pulper, and then double fermented ( wet and dry fermentations.) The parchment is then soaked in clean water for 24 hours.
Afterwards, the parchment is rinsed thoroughly and sorted in washing channels and then dried on raised beds by the sun. The drying period averages at fifteen days. The coffee is turned by hand at regular intervals and the raised beds allow for air circulation around and under the coffee. The coffee is covered during the hottest parts of the day to avoid over-exposure to sunlight and heat. The coffee is then transported to Kigali for dry milling and export.
Rwanda’s climate, altitude, and high quality Bourbon-variety coffee trees give it the ability to produce high quality coffee for the specialty coffee market.
MUBUGA COFFEE has its three coffee plantations that serve as a model for farmers neighboring the area. One plantation is located in MUBUGA sector with 7.000 coffee trees, another plantation is located in RUBENGERA sector with 18.000 coffee trees and the last is located in MUSHUBATI sector with 4.000 plants.
Together we have about 29.000 coffee plants and we offer our own coffee washing station.
